Apple is rolling out microLED technology across their entire range of products

Apple’s microLED technology has been in the works for a while, and it looks like it will be featured in the Apple Watch Ultra update in late 2024. After that, we can expect to see the same tech rolled out across Apple’s entire product line, including iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

After that 2024 release, Gurman forecasts that Apple will turn to the iPhone lineup for the next microLED upgrade, then to be followed by the iPad lineup and then the Mac range. Apple is also expected to add microLED to all of its key product categories, eventually.

It’s rumored that Apple makes its own screens, so the assumption is that a smaller size means fewer difficulties in creating such a display.

But the Question is…

Why Apple is switching to microLED technology ?

MicroLED technology offers a number of advantages over traditional LED technology. Like :

  1. More energy efficient – MicroLEDs use less power than traditional LEDs, which means they can be used in devices that require low power consumption.
  2. Brighter  – Makes them ideal for use in displays and lighting applications.
  3. Compact – Smaller than traditional LEDs, which allows them to be used in smaller devices and in tighter spaces.
  4. More durable than traditional LED technology. M
  5. Much more resistant to shock and vibration, which makes them ideal for use in products that need to withstand harsh environments
  6. More resistant to heat and cold, which makes them suitable for use in outdoor applications.
  7. Longer lifespan than traditional LEDs, which means they can be used for longer periods of time without needing to be replaced.

Although microLED technology offers a number of advantages over traditional LED technology, it also has some drawbacks. One of the main drawbacks is that it is more expensive than traditional LED technology and  more complex to manufacture and require more specialized equipment, which makes them more expensive than traditional LEDs.Second is not as widely available as traditional LEDs, which can make it difficult to find the right components for your project.
